Blog Week 3: RESEARCH THAT BENEFITS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES-UPLIFITING STORIES
During my internship I had to conduct a research on children with Type 2 diabetes and look at their diet history. I looked at children that had been on the WIC program as a child. I then took the documents that had their diet and weight history. I wanted to compare what the children ate as a child and their eating habits at that time. I found that many of the children with Type 2 diabetes had poor diets even at a young age and their BMI were high. The research that I conducted showed that even a young age it is important to eat healthy and exercise. It will carry over later in life.
This topic is so important for healthy child development and building the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. Are you currently working with families to promote healthy eating habits? If so, how are you communicating with families and children?
