Blog 1: 6162: Establishing Professional Contacts and Expanding Resources
It has been a struggle trying to contact other early childhood professionals from around the country. I sent out multiple e-mails in which some were wrong addresses and other people were not responding. I still have yet to hear from one of the e-mails I have sent. I have a friend that teaches English over in Africa. I contacted her and asked her if she could give me 2 of her friends e-mail and let me contact them. I have sent them an e-mail and waiting to hear back from them. I really want to speak with educators from another country because I think it would be interesting to see what differences there are between our cultures and there’s.
Blog Assignment 2:
I choose to join National Head Start Association (http://nhsa.org/) because Head Start is a comprehensive program for children from age three to five and their families. The goal of Head Start is to bring about a greater degree of social competence in young children, in particular those of lower-income families. Social competence is defined as a child's everyday effectiveness in dealing with both the present environment and later responsibilities. I feel very strongly about the importance of education in children at an early age.
Karen I encountered the same problem. I found some of my emails returned. Your lucky to know someone who teaches in Africa. Hopefully you will get an email though the contacts your friend refered you to.
ReplyDeleteKaren, I am having trouble as well. I am more interested in having contact with a professional than doing the alternative assignment. I have worked with Head Start.I found that it has deviated from their original mission due to federal regulations that have caused teacher and student creativity to be stifled. I hope policy makers realize this and allow teachers and students to excel through a excellent and creative curriculum.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if we are all having a bit of trouble with getting answers. I think we all need to keep on writing and eventually someone will answer. Thank you for sharing the National Head Start Association. I just was hired with Head Start. I will be visiting that website as well for information.
ReplyDeleteI think everybody is having trouble getting in contact with these organizations which makes me wonder how effective are they if they aren't there to communicate with people or answer questions so that people can get involved. I also chose headstart; I chose them because I was in headstart when I was a child so I kind of hold it close to my heart because I feel like it benefited me tremendously.
ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you have a friend that can help you contact other professionals. Keep up the motivation and I'm sure we all will be able to make our connections.
Have you ever been involved with Head Start before?
