- Think about any disagreements, or conflicts, you have recently experienced or are currently experiencing at work with a supervisor or colleague, or someone in your personal life. Share at lest two strategies you have learned about that might be effective.
I am currently experiencing conflict with one of my managers. I am calling a meeting with her on Monday when we get back from spring break. This week has helped me have a better understanding of how I can handle conflict. The first strategy that I have learned that could help me with this conflict is really listening what the other person has to say and what they think. The second strategy that I have learned this week is do not imply judgment. Keeping an open mind during a conflict with help you resolve or come to a compromise during the disagreement.
If anyone else has some advice to give me for my meeting with this employee on Monday please advise your thoughts or inputs.
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteLike you, I am having difficulty communication. My situation is with my step-father and it involves money. I have to say that right now I do not see us coming to an agreement. We are both very stubborn and upset.
How did the meeting with your Manager go? Did the techniques you learned about help you be a better communicator? I hope so! I am anxious to know the results.
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post. I think the best thing you can do is to keep an open mind and try to be as judgment free as possible. If he/she is not doing things correctly it is okay to tell them about it; however, be respectful as you do.
Karen, Thank you for opening up this discussion. We all experience a time with our supervisors at some point that can be difficult to approach. I think you are doing the right thing by having a meeting separately to discuss the issue. I agree with everyone that having an open mind can be very helpful. One of the things that helps me in difficult discussions is to write down my thoughts ahead of time. This helps me to stay focused on the issue and to remind myself of my thoughts when I lose the words to express them in the heat of the moment. I hope everything goes well for you!
