“[P]art of being who you are has to do with feeling your feelings, which means you'll have a wide range of emotions--not just constant sunshiny happiness.”
― Janet Gonzalez-Mena, Child, Family, and Community: Family-Centered Early Care Education
We (those in early childhood) have a unique opportunity working with children. Being in early childhood allows the opportunity to shape a child.

My passion comes from wanting to make a difference

Being considerate of others will take your children further in life than any college degree.
-Marian Wright Edelman
Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.
-Marian Wright Edelman

I love the throught from Marian Edelman; I think alot about making sure I am making a difference but I love improving and leaving the community better than you found it. As I said, my passion is working with little ones and making a difference in their lives but to articulate that it is important to feel our feelings, that is also what fuels me!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the comment from Marian Edelman about being considerate of others. In such a "me" focused society it is sometimes difficult to instill into them a sense of compassion for others and the importance of community. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI too really love the quote from Marian Wright-Edelman about leaving the world a better place than you found it. She is such an inspiration to me for the work she does with the poor in this country. When so many others would rather give elsewhere, she makes a case for the wealthy to do their fair share here and help those who are going hungry everyday in the States.
ReplyDeleteI was also touched by the Sandy Escobido quote. People who are truly passionate about this field all feel the same way. For some children, their teachers are the adults they spend the most time with. We have a very unique and rewarding job in working with children in early education settings. With us, their personality and way of thinking is shaped. It is a wonderful thing to see children enter pre-k, then see them in third grade as mature intelligent students knowing that you had a hand in their progress.
